How Synkivo connects SharePoint to WordPress

Synkivo uses Microsoft Graph, the same API that powers Microsoft 365 itself. Authentication uses Microsoft 365 OAuth; on enterprise tenants, a one-time admin consent grants Synkivo access to the sites and libraries you choose.

Microsoft Graph credentials are encrypted at rest in your WordPress database. The connection is tenant-scoped: Synkivo sees only the SharePoint sites and libraries you grant access to, and Microsoft Graph enforces those scopes on every API call.

SharePoint files in the WordPress Media Library

Pick a SharePoint file. Insert it on any page or post. The file stays in SharePoint.

Synkivo adds a SharePoint tab to the WordPress Media Library dialog. Click “Add Media” in the editor or any plugin using the standard media picker, browse your SharePoint document libraries, pick a file, and insert it. No download. No re-upload.

When you insert a file, you choose Embed or Import. Embed links to the file in SharePoint; the WordPress page references it live, and any update in SharePoint reflects on your site immediately. Import copies the file once into WordPress uploads, useful when you need a local copy that survives even if the SharePoint connection is unavailable.

Every embedded file gets a permanent WordPress-hosted URL through Synkivo’s Public Assets system. Rename or move the file in SharePoint later, and the WordPress URL stays valid. Revoke access with one click in the Public Assets admin page.

On a SharePoint-backed WordPress site, security is managed in two places. Microsoft 365 controls access to the tenant. Meanwhile, Synkivo controls which sites and libraries each WordPress visitor can access, as well as what they can see and do.

Microsoft 365 authentication

Synkivo authenticates through standard Microsoft 365 OAuth and Azure AD. Conditional access policies, MFA, and tenant-level rules apply automatically.

Encrypted credentials

Microsoft Graph tokens are encrypted at rest in your WordPress database. Token refresh happens automatically without exposing credentials in page source.

Role-based actions

Define what each WordPress role can do per module: browse, upload, download, rename or delete. Access is enforced inside WordPress before requests reach SharePoint.

Personal folder

How is the connection authenticated and where are credentials stored?

Synkivo authenticates to SharePoint using Microsoft 365 OAuth via Microsoft Graph. On enterprise tenants, a tenant administrator grants one-time consent for Synkivo to access the sites and libraries you choose. Microsoft Graph access tokens are encrypted at rest in your WordPress database and refresh automatically.

Are my files copied to WordPress, or do they stay in SharePoint?

Files stay in SharePoint. Synkivo does not copy, mirror, or sync files to your WordPress server in the default Embed mode. When a visitor browses, downloads, or previews a file, Synkivo retrieves it from SharePoint in real time. Only files explicitly imported through the Media Library Import option are copied to WordPress uploads.

Can I use SharePoint files in the WordPress Media Library?

Yes. Synkivo adds a SharePoint tab to the Media Library dialog. You can insert SharePoint files into posts, pages, products, ACF fields, Gutenberg blocks, and any plugin that uses the standard media picker. The SharePoint document library becomes the source of truth; the WordPress site references the live files.

Does Synkivo respect SharePoint's existing site and library permissions?

Yes. Synkivo passes the configured Synkivo scope through to Microsoft Graph; SharePoint enforces its existing permission model on every API call. If a file is restricted at the SharePoint level, Synkivo cannot surface it, even if a WordPress role is configured to display it. SharePoint stays the authoritative permission layer.

Can I give different WordPress users access to different SharePoint sites or libraries?

Yes, with Personal Folders (Pro plan and above). Link each WordPress user to one or more specific SharePoint folders or libraries. When a user visits a Synkivo module, they see only the scope linked to their WordPress account. Business plan adds Dynamic Folders, which create per-user folders automatically. See personal folders.

What happens with SharePoint document libraries that have custom columns or metadata?

Synkivo surfaces files from libraries that have custom columns and metadata defined. File listings show standard properties (name, modified date, size, file type) but do not display custom column values.

What happens if my Microsoft 365 subscription changes or expires?

Synkivo's connection depends on a valid Microsoft 365 account with SharePoint access. If the M365 subscription expires or the authorized account is removed from the tenant, Synkivo's SharePoint connection stops working until reauthorization. Your WordPress site keeps running; the SharePoint-specific Synkivo modules return access errors until a new valid M365 connection is configured. Synkivo licensing is separate from M365 licensing.
